Summary/ Objective:

The Design Engineer will be a key member of the Reinhausen Manufacturing (RM) Engineering Team including the Humboldt, TN Production facility and the Engineering Group in Germany. The Design Engineer is part of a team for the new or further development or product maintenance of tap changers, selectors, drives or accessories (e.g. protection systems, electronic components and software). He is responsible for the independent processing of various, sometimes complex problems or has technical responsibility within the team.

Operative Tasks: 

• Effectively and professionally communicate with internal (local and headquarter) and external customers
• Creation of extensive assembly families (from smaller assemblies to complete switches)
• Creation of 3D models from designs (efficient CAD/ECAD use)
• Creation of production drawings from 3D models (standard-compliant, correct material designations, tolerance specifications, etc.) or circuit diagrams
• Independent implementation of changes according to the process description
• Professional design of assemblies (tolerance specifications, assembly-friendly design, …) or Design of extensive control systems
• Design and creation of individual parts (castings, plastic parts, tolerance determination) in consultation with experts and suppliers from concept to detailing
• Organization, creation and processing of construction and parts lists (kpl. Building program, relationship knowledge)
• Product knowledge, answering complex technical questions about the supported product (sales, service, customer, production)
• Technical problem clarification for special orders (research, compatibility checks, documentation…), control of the K0 process
• Proactive clarification and approval in the event of problems in procurement, production, assembly, … and development of sustainable solutions to problems
• Implementation of complex systematic brainstorming, assessment of conceptual solutions (feasibility, cost-effectiveness, risk, …)
• Independent preparation of tests in expert discussions with design team and testing facility in Germany and subsequent evaluation of the results
• Development of constructive solutions considering complex electrotechnical contexts
• Design of complex static and dynamic assemblies in cooperation with production or suppliers
• Design work in 3D CAD, consistent use of geometry data for FEM calculations (Design Space, Ansys), kinematic calculations and tolerance analyses

Physical Demands:

• The employee is required to regularly required to use hands, fingers, operate controls such as computer equipment and is required to communicate clearly with all employees. Local, domestic and international travel will be at least two times a year weeks at a time.

What challenges can you expect?

The Applications Engineer for OPP is the main contact point for the assigned Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The applications engineer supports the company revenue growth by providing technical expertise and support throughout the sales and manufacturing process, as well as maintaining relationship with the customer account.

Strategic Tasks:

• Act as the primary point of contact for assigned customer accounts (OEMs), understanding their business objectives and technical requirements.
• Advising OEM customers in regard to all technical inquiries relating to the MR product range, with specialized support from an OPS (Order Process Service) or specialized department where necessary.
• Interpreting, clarifying and realizing customer specifications for offers and orders, taking into account the MR delivery spectrum, support early review of technical feasibility and cost effectiveness of customer-specific special designs (K0).
• Compiling, analyzing (technically and commercially) and sending offers and order confirmations for products, components, parts and services for designated OEM customers (with support from OPS regarding parts & services).
• Assisting with and carrying out simple to complex technical projects depending on experience and skills (e.g. phase shifter).
• Work closely with internal teams, including sales, engineering, scheduling and production to monitor progress during processing and ensure successful implementation.
• Assisting with and monitoring delivery, tracking and invoicing.
• Providing technical support and after-sales services to designated OEMs.  Processing of complaints and disruptions, including problem assessment, implementation of necessary actions, follow-up and correspondences, with technical support from an OPS or specialized department where necessary (e.g. in regard to substantive processing or system support).
• Provide technical support for internal departments (service, sales, production, etc).
• Collaborate with the sales team to develop and support sales strategies that effectively position our products/services in the marketplace.
• Conduct trainings, presentations, and technical workshops to both internal and external customers for the product range.
• Lead in-depth technical discussions with OEM / end user to identify and address their specific requirements and propose solution from MR product range.
• Stay current on industry trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies to effectively articulate our value proposition to customers.

Essential Functions

• Analysis of the technical design, the customer specifications and the configuration data in the customer order positions (product-oriented processing / delegation).
• Transfer and further detailing of the configuration data in the order bill of materials (BOM)
• Processing and checking of the order BOM, associated work steps and delivery-relevant positions
• Compilation and modification of the customer offer and order documentation in the ERP/CAD systems (creation and modification of wiring schematics, drawings, instructions).
• Interpretation, clarification and implementation of customer specifications for offers and orders, taking into account the delivery spectrum. For customer-specific special designs, early clarification of technical feasibility and economic efficiency by initiating the applicable processes

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This is largely a sedentary role using computer and phone; however, some visits to field will be required. This would require the ability to drive car, walk, climb ladders or scaffolding wearing PPE. 10-20% travel could be expected for this position, by car or plane.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and occasional overtime / travel required.

The Supplier Quality Engineer’s responsibilities include designing quality standards, inspecting materials, equipment, processes, and products, developing quality control systems, and determining corrective actions. You will also work with suppliers to implement quality measures.

A successful quality engineer should have excellent troubleshooting skills and be able to ensure that processes and products consistently meet established quality standards.

Summary/ Objective:

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for performing appropriate measurement on supplier parts and material for both first piece and serial production to ensure they comply with Quality Management Standards (QMS). The technician teams with the Production facility to resolve all quality issues.

Essential Functions:

• Perform receiving inspection/measurement functions to validate that suppliers meet dimensional, finish, material, and functional specifications.
• Create and maintain receiving inspection records to comply with ISO standards.
• Create and maintain Initial Sample and Test Report (ISTR).
• Performs First Piece Inspections/ Measurements and provides data to engineering as part of the supplier validation and approval process.
• Examines non-conforming parts and assemblies to determine disposition and appropriate action.
• Provide feedback and recommend solutions to responsible parties for non-conformance including the supplier or production team.
• Create Quality Notifications in SAP as needed for supplier related part or assembly defects and maintains records to comply with standards.
• Performs calibration tasks including creating and maintaining ISO documentation on all parts, materials and products.
• Ensure all Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures are followed.
• Maintain and Manage non-conforming material inventory and ensure it is documented in accordance with QMS standards.
• Organize work area through 5s projects.
• Team with Suppliers, Production Team and Purchasing to resolve all issues in a timely manner.
• Perform assessments in Productions and Testing Department to evaluate process adherence and employee training effectiveness.

• Regular and consistent attendance during the core hours of 7AM-4PM Monday through Friday is required.

• Perform Statistical Studies on any process or tool used in the manufacturing process.
• Become proficient on all SAP transactions.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position reports to the Quality Manager who has dotted line responsibility to Reinhausen in Germany.

This role will routinely be exposed to loud noises such as air-powered tools/presses, oil/dirt, and forklift traffic.  Additionally, this position will require some use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This position is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and/or reach.  Some lifting of parts may be required when necessary; ability to lift a minimum of 35-50 lbs.
